CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 A LETTER FROM DR. SATUYI'S DESK
Dear Children First Parents and Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to assure you all that we are closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic and the impact it is having not just on the United States but other countries around the world.
As a Medical Office and being on the fore front of patient care in Prince Georges and Howard Counties, we as a Company are taking every step to ensure the health and safety of our employees as well as our patients who we are so privileged to serve. You have our confidence that we will do whatever it takes to live up to our mission - placing the health of our "Children First" in whatever we do.
We have taken the following steps so far in response to this global pandemic:
Educating ourselves as Pediatricians and Medical Providers by listening to Webinars from Children's National Medical Center, attending conferences held by Children's National Pediatric Health Network, and maintaining up to date information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), The World Health Organization (WHO) and The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
Scheduling regular Staff updates and Training for our Providers, Office Manager, Front Desk Staff and Nursing Staff in asking Parents appropriate screening questions at every office visit to determine any risk of exposure from traveling overseas, contact with anyone who has had any overseas travel, exposure in the communities they live, at their place of employment or in the schools or daycares they attend.
We have escalated our cleaning protocols to go above and beyond what we would normally do. Surfaces, counter tops, doorknobs, chairs, exam tables, stethoscopes and medical equipment are being sanitized regularly throughout the day to ensure a super clean environment for all.
Our staff will be wearing masks and will always have gloves on when having any patient contact. They all have pocket sanitizers and are encouraged to wash their hands before and after all patient contact despite wearing gloves. Again, a policy we have always had but going above and beyond to ensure a very clean environment. Temperature checks will be done on all our employees when they report to work daily.
We have suspended all our walk-in visits until further notice and are encouraging all Parents to call ahead to schedule all sick appointments so appropriate screening questions can be conducted over the phone and in the office as well. Medical advice will be given over the phone at times to manage non urgent concerns, medication refills, lab discussions and other concerns which do not require an office visit.
All patients entering the office are screened at the entrance of the building before entering the office. We reserve the right to deny entry to anyone who answers Yes to any screening questions so they can be appropriately directed to call the local Health Department or Emergency Room for appropriate testing and quarantine if deemed necessary. We are currently not doing any onsite testing for the Coronavirus at this time.
Entrance doors will remain open during regular office hours so patients can enter easily and pulled directly back to an exam room without having to touch doorknobs, play with toys or even having to sit in the waiting room. By doing this, we will uphold the recommendation of Social Distancing to limit the person to person spread of this viral illness.
We also ask that you limit the number of people accompanying you to each visit, again to minimize the number of people in the office at any given time. If at any given time there are too many patients showing up, you will be asked to wait in your vehicles until an exam room is available to pull you back. Our staff will be offering appointments throughout the day and they may ask you to come back at a later time.
We have suspended signing in at the front desk, so going forward there will be no clip boards or pens to use. No cash will be taken from anyone for copays so we encourage you to use a credit/debit card for all transactions. There are other options for payments as well like through Paypal and payments by phone.
With the above in place we hope to decrease the person to person and community spread of this virus. Please log on to our website for further updates in the days and weeks ahead.
We thank you for your commitment to Children First Pediatrics and we appreciate your cooperation with our new office policies as we work together to keep our kids as well as ourselves healthy.
